Within the DemoSoc group, he is dedicated to cross-country comparative research on intergenerational educational mobility across different welfare state models. The primary aim of the research is to contribute valuable insights into the relationship between the differentiation of educational opportunities in tertiary education and the political-economic context of modern welfare states.

Having earned a PhD in political science from the Higher School of Economics, Sergei has devoted recent years to comparative research in the sociology of higher education. His professional journey includes roles such as Deputy Director and Researcher at the Institute of Education (HSE University, Moscow), as well as serving as an International Consultant for World Bank projects.

Engaging in diverse research projects, Sergei has addressed issues such as the social stratification of educational aspirations, equality of educational opportunities, higher education regionalization, and the political economies influencing access to tertiary education. His contributions span two cross-country comparative research projects and a range of consultancy initiatives for universities.
