Dr. Elias Kyewski studied Applied Cognitive and Media Sciences (Bachelor and Master) at the
University of Duisburg-Essen. In his dissertation he investigated the “hostile media effect”
and the influences of social networking sites on the (hostile) perception of news content.
During his PhD he worked at the Chair of Social Psychology: Media and Communication
(headed by Prof. Dr. Nicole Krämer) as a research assistant in various projects (e.g., Forum
privacy – Research for a self-determined life in the digital age, Pedagogical and technological
approaches to cooperative learning in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)).
Since April 2021, Dr. Elias Kyewski has been working as a lecturer at the Institute of
Computer Science.
His research interests are mainly directed towards aspects of monitoring, forming, and
expressing opinions in social media, political and civic participation in social media,
polarization, effects of publicness and privacy on digital communication as well as
gamification-based studies on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.
