Abstract:

Is it possible to provide education that help us "unlearn" anthropocentrism and see animals as other subjects, not resources? Critical animal pedagogy and vegan education offer new ways to discuss animal rights through engaging with bodily knowledge and emotions. How do teachers use somatic practices and empathic listening to reduce students’ anxiety and engage in conversations about complex ethical issues? And what communication strategies help foster interspecies solidarity and sensitivity to animal oppression? We will discuss effective pedagogical practices in vegan education, the role of the body and emotions, creative methods for addressing resistance, and how education can become a space for critically reconsidering norms related to animal rights.
