Description of the activity

Sounds and music in soundtrack creation. The union of music, sound effects, ambient sounds and dialogues in relation to any visual element, images, videos or scenario constitutes a soundtrack. A soundtrack is a vital element for constructing the atmosphere and narrative in any audiovisual production.

In this workshop we explored how sounds and music can build a soundtrack not as isolated elements, but as interrelated components that fulfill different functions within an audiovisual story. We saw how a soundtrack can reinforce emotional meaning, explain a narrative and affect the intensity and credibility of actions. During the workshop:

1. We explored and analysed examples of soundtracks.

2. We experimented with the selection and combination of sounds through Freesound and music.

3. We created preliminary versions of soundtracks that accompany the narration of visual elements.
