Project description
Doblatge en català: normalització i supervivència originated as a final year project in Journalism at the Pompeu Fabra University. Structured across two chapters, it traces the history of Catalan dubbing from the early days of TV3 to the present, highlighting its importance as a strategic cultural tool.
Divided into two chapters, the project analyses how this discipline has been key to linguistic normalization and preservation of Catalan culture, while documenting its challenges and transformations over time. Thanks to the participation of dubbing actors and actresses, politicians, entities and producers, we believe that this material will allow viewers to be informed about different viewpoints and to be able to grasp and understand the strategic importance of Catalan dubbing for the Catalan language. In addition to showing the audience the reality of a profession that typically remains quite behind the scenes and ultimately undervalued by the artistic sector, we want to raise awareness about the importance of dubbing in Catalan as a necessary and essential state structure to guarantee the linguistic rights of Catalan speakers in Catalonia, where Spanish is the language of leisure in the audiovisual world par excellence.
