Project description

Following the research of the Microbial Ecology and Evolution Lab from the Institute of Evolutionary Biology on the tropicalization of the Catalan Mediterranean and its influence on coral holobionts, we will film and document their work which involves collecting samples and conducting scientific trials in the Cap de Creus Natural Park (Girona).

We aim to search, record, archive and experiment with these images, developing an expanded film project that features participation by the local people and knowledge transfer, which promote re-engaging the community on the effects of the climate crisis in our sea.

The long-term goal is to make a somatic film of coral holobionts (how the interspecies symbiosis that a holobiont produces takes place, how they are faring with the rise in sea temperature, invasive species, etc.).

Laboratori d'Imatges Potencials

This laboratory is a space for creation and interdisciplinary research at Pompeu Fabra University that develops an experimental art-science work methodology that will allow us to visualize potential images of the climate crisis. These images have not yet emerged from the scientists’ microscopes and require cinematic work to raise awareness, make the abstract more tangible and convey the issue to the general public.
