Project description

This research addresses the whistled language of the Silbo Gomero from an interdisciplinary perspective that lies at the intersection of participatory anthropology, sensory ethnography and experimental cinema. The proposal understands cinema not as a mere instrument of recording, but as a device of collective and speculative creation capable of exploring the bodily, sound and relational dimensions of this language.

The proposal will culminate in the production of an ethnofiction film, a type of ethnographic cinema that intertwines documentary and fictional elements. Through improvisation, collaboration and work with oral memory, the camera becomes a catalyst for collective experiences. The scope of this approach extends beyond the representational, relying on a model of cinematic creation in which the inhabitants of La Gomera are not simply filmed subjects, but active co-creators.
