Synopsis
Every archive destroyed, every library burned, and every voice silenced under Israeli occupation is not accidental but part of the systematic erasure of Palestinian memory. In response, Cartografia del Record seeks to preserve memory as an act of resistance.
We delve into the memory of generations born and raised in exile and who, unlike their predecessors, did not directly experience forced displacement, but have inherited the desire to return as part of their identity. Through this cartography of inherited memories, each story is recreated in tatreez (Palestinian embroidery) as a language of memory: diaspora motifs that record displacements, stories of exile and forms of belonging. The project is designed in four languages because growing up in the diaspora is also about inhabiting the border between languages.
Project description
Cartografia del Record (Cartography of Memory) is a transmedia documentary project that builds a narrative ecosystem across multiple formats: an interactive webdoc, a physical archive of embroidered memories (tatreez), and public activities around the diaspora experience.
The project starts from a key idea: beyond the institutional archives dedicated to the Nakba (1948), there exists a domestic Palestinian memory, present here and now, that explains what is happening thousands of kilometers away and sustains a sense of belonging far from the region.
In a context where images of Palestine often reach us through catastrophe, the project seeks to preserve alternative images and build a dynamic, expanding archive. The physical dimension takes shape in a traveling exhibition embodying the “imagined Palestines” of its participants, complemented by tatreez workshops where the audience can add their own memories

The project is currently consolidating its prototype and is seeking support in production and web development. The main challenge is ensuring that it has the technical capacity to implement the interactive website while also coordinating the production of the tatreez (design and embroidery).
