Synopsis

Candela must leave her apartment in Barcelona when her rental contract ends without the option to renew it. Temporarily, she moves into an industrial warehouse, in an improvised room, thanks to Mateu, who works there with artists and creatives. In this new space, her reality becomes distorted and blurred as she faces this life change and the feeling of not belonging anywhere.

Candela undergoes a process of reconnecting with herself, stepping away from productivity and structured routines, and reconciling with existential emptiness, uncertainty, and nothingness. In this void, the body moves, sustains itself, and remembers that it is also a home.

Project description

Espai buit is a fictional short film in the genre of magical realism, combining an intimate narrative with sensory and bodily exploration. The project starts from a realistic base, the precarious housing situation and the feeling of disorientation in a young woman’s life in Barcelona, and gradually opens into a more symbolic and dreamlike dimension.

The film adopts a non-conventional structure centered on the protagonist’s emotional experience, where the body, sound, and space play essential narrative roles. It is an independent, auteur-driven project addressing contemporary social issues through an intimate, poetic, and non-discursive lens.
