Project description
This proposal conducts artistic research on voice as a phenomenon that can detach itself from the body and rely on technologies capable of transforming, sustaining and transmitting it. The starting point for the project involves two radically different forms of prostheses: on the one hand, the electrolarynx which my grandfather used in order to communicate after he lost his voice; on the other hand, the antennas of NASA’s Deep Space Communications Complex in Madrid, an infrastructure that makes it possible to transmit signals millions of kilometres from Earth. Based on this connection between the intimate scale and the infrastructural scale, this project investigates voice as a space of mediation between body, technology and distance.
The project is conceived as a hybrid practice between cinema as an art form, video installation and artistic research. Methodologically, it combines the recording of spatial communication infrastructures, the activation of domestic archival materials and the construction of an audiovisual device that connects these two dimensions.
