These workshops foster the students approach to the study of nature through a creative activity around the sounds. As a final result, the participants create a sound map of the natural areas.

During the school year 2013-2014, 10 workshops were carried out with about 300 secondary school students (secondary and high school) from el Prat de Llobregat in the Delta del Llobregat natural areas.

The schools that participated in these workshops were the INS Estany de la Ricarda, the School Mare de Deu del Carme, the INS Baldiri Guilera, the IES Riera Baixa and the INS Salvador Dalí, all of them belong to the Prat de Llobregat municipality.

In these workshops two natural areas have been explored: the Natural Areas of the Llobregat river (Cal Tet) and Pineda de Can Camins in Delta del Llobregat.

Two editions took place; the first edition occurred in October and November 2013 and the second edition during March and April 2014

The work sessions of these workshops consisted in:

  • Introduction to the fauna and vegetation of the natural areas, as to their sounds;
  • Introduction to the recording techniques;
  • Fieldwork: in which the sounds of the natural areas were recorded, and the information and identification of animal species we registered;
  • Listening and work with the recorded sounds: selection and analysis of the sounds, description, edition with the use of computer tools, classification and upload to the website;
  • Creation of a sound map with the geolocated recordings

143 sounds resulted of these workshops, among them animal sounds, natural elements sounds (water, wind, etc.), planes and people; all of them have been incorporated on the Freesound.org platform.
