Professor Emeritus, in active service, and former Dean of the Department of Economics and Business at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), principal investigator of the Centre for Research in Economics and Health (CRES) and member of the Governing Council of CRES, a centre he co-founded together with Guillem López Casasnovas. Award for knowledge transfer. Member of the Governing Boards of the Hospital de Mar and the UPF. Member of the Advisory Board of EUTOPIA European University Alliance.


MBA ESADE, Research Assistant and MSc Purdue University, PhD studies in Public Health and Fulbright Scholar at Johns Hopkins, PhD in Economics from the UB, and Visiting Scholar at the Department of Economics of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT.


Consulting experience at Arthur Andersen &Co, financial analyst at Geseco-Banco Urquijo and different management responsibilities at the Hospital de Sant Pau. Head of the Technical Cabinet of the Generalitat de Catalunya, deputy director of the Ministry of Health, and freelance professional consultant for international organisations in different countries until his incorporation as a professor at the UPF at its inaugural moment in 1990.
Former President of the Spanish Society of Public Health and Health Administration (SESPAS), former President of the Health Economics Association (AES), former Secretary of the European Association of Public Health, meritorious member of CAMFiC, Josep Trueta Medal for Health Merit, member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia and Honorary Member of the Health Economics Association.
