Bachelor  in Economics from Universitat de  Barcelona (Spain), she holds an MSc in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University (Boston, USA, 1989-1991) thanks to the support of  "la Caixa", and a Ph.D. in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain, 1996). She also holds a degree in General Management (PDG) by IESE Business School (2008).

 

After some years in Universidad Carlos III (Madrid, Spain), as researcher and teacher in Economics, she joined the Spanish Ministry of Health as Technical Adviser in 1997. She held, since 2001, top management positions in the largest private hospital group in Spain, USP (now Grupo Quirón Salud). Between 2009 and 2011 she was Managing Director of the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), a leading centre of oncology research located in one of the largest teaching hospitals in Spain. She joined CRES-UPF in 2011, as Director and Senior Researcher, until 2014.

 

She is currently Associate Researcher at CRES, while holding a part-time position as advisor on pharmacoeconomics to the pharma company Almirall, for the Price and Reimbursement process and Market Access of their drugs in the Spanish market. Affiliated to both Medical Affairs and Market Access departments. She also works as Independent Expert, appointed by the European Commission, for the evaluation  of Small and Medium Enterprises' development projects in the health and biotech fields, for the assignment of EC-SME Instrument funding. Finally, she is co-director of the Master in Health Services Administration and Management, and of the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Management, both organised by the Gaspar Casal Foundation of Madrid in collaboration with the Barcelona School of Management (BSM-UPF).

Her fields of special interest are: innovation; Pharma and Biotech; the design and regulation of incentives and risk sharing mechanisms; and the organization and financing of health care.
