Doctor in Medicine (Universitat de València) and specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Researcher in the area of Health Services Research and Pharmacoepidemiology at FISABIO|SALUD PUBLICA (Consellería de Sanidad de la Generalitat Valenciana) and associate researcher at the Centro de Investigación en Economía y Salud (CRES). He is currently Director of Gaceta Sanitaria, the scientific journal of the Spanish Society of Public Health and Health Administration (SESPAS). 

His research has focused on the following lines of investigation:

1. Utilisation of health services, chronicity, risk adjustment systems, inappropriate use and overuse of health services.
2. Evaluation of the efficacy, effectiveness and efficiency of health technologies and interventions and of the quality and efficiency of health organisations.
3. Research in health-related quality of life/outcomes.
4. Pharmacoepidemiology, mainly causal inference studies from cohorts with real life data.
