The Phonos Foundation promotes cultural activities around music technology. Working in close contact with the Music Technology Group (MTG) at the Pompeu Fabra University, the Phonos Foundation develops social and cultural projects to foster the creation and dissemination of music made with new technological means.

Phonos was created in 1974 by J. M. Mestres Quadreny, Andres Lewin-Richter and Luis Callejo. For many years, it remained the only electroacoustic music studio in Spain. Most spanish composers currently working with technology attended the classes by Chilean composer Gabriel Brnčić at Phonos. In 1982, Phonos became a Private Foundation, effectively registered at the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1984. From 1994 onwards, the Phonos Foundation establishes an agreement of co-operation with Pompeu Fabra University, becoming tied to this institution ever since.
