Imatge inicial -

Concert by the students of the Sound and Music Computing (SMC) master's at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. A performance in which some of the topics they are working on within the framework of the master's degree will be shown, combining instrumental music with technological tools. A program of sound experimentation through free improvisation, real-time audiovisual design, and co-creation with machine learning.

Program:

  • Whine of the pine - Olly Flaig, Andreas Papaeracleous, Choenden Kyirong

The performance explores dynamic layering of asynchronous live loops as a technique for seamlessly integrating electronics into live instrumental improvisation. It reminds us that mistakes from our past will come back and haunt us, and that sometimes, the best way forward is to play XBOX.

  • No-data agents - Olly Flaig
Olly Flaig will be presenting his thesis work, using no-data techniques to explore ML training dynamics as material for live musical performance.
  • Microtonal Democracy  - Germán Puerto (Xenatone Synthesizer), Choenden Kyirong (Digital Piano) & Rafael Moncayo (Electronic Beats)

"Microtonal Democracy" is a live collision between the music we all know and the notes hidden between the keys. Driven by electronic beats, the performance centers on a unique musical face-off: a standard digital piano locked into traditional Western harmony, playing against Xenatone, a custom synthesizer that bends and morphs its tuning in real-time. The core of the set is the acoustic "shimmering" effect. As the synthesizer sweeps through microtonal scales like 19, 31, and 53-EDO, its notes clash against the rigid, familiar pitches of the standard piano. Divided into two movements (EDOnism and Shrutira), the set is accompanied by real-time projections displaying the geometric interface of the synthesizer. Ultimately, this performance is a sonic experiment designed to break the rules of standard tuning and open the audience's minds and ears to the vast, untapped possibilities of microtonality.

  • Untitled - Choenden Kyirong

Untitled is a performance that will be grounded in improvisation with a co-creative tool that is used as a harmonic backdrop.

  • Morphologies: Live A/V - Yalu (Federico De Lellis)

Morphologies is a live audio-visual performance exploring the intersection of experimental soundscapes and rhythms with reactive digital art. Hardware modular synthesizers generate patterns and atmospheres that directly manipulate 3D geometric visuals in real-time. Utilizing purely procedural generation with no pre-rendered footage, the performance creates a feedback loop where live sonic textures shift architectural forms.
