The recognition of credits refers to the acceptance by Pompeu Fabra University of credits that, having been earned in an official programme, whether at UPF or another university, count towards the number of credits that must be completed in a different programme in order to earn the corresponding official qualification.

The transfer of credits refers to the inclusion in the student's transcript of credits earned in another official programme undertaken previously, whether at UPF or elsewhere, that did not count towards the award of an official qualification.

Requirements

Applying for the recognition of credits entails the transfer of successfully completed credits from the previous programme.

When you apply for the transfer and recognition of credits, you must submit the application form, attaching the following documents:

  • Application for the transfer and recognition of credits:
    1. Transfer of credits: You must state that the programme from which the credits will be transferred did not lead to the award of an official qualification and that you are not currently simultaneously enrolled on two or more official programmes.
    2. Recognition of credits: For basic education subjects, you must indicate the branch of knowledge and subject area to which they belong.
  • Transcript listing the subjects, the number of credits and the mark earned. Students who took the original studies at Pompeu Fabra University do not have to submit this document.
  • Photocopy of the syllabus for the programme, duly stamped by the corresponding school. Students who took the original studies at Pompeu Fabra University do not have to submit this document.
  • Photocopy of the course plans or teaching programmes for the subjects taken, duly stamped by the school. Students who took the original studies at Pompeu Fabra University do not have to submit these documents.
  • Receipt for the deposit of the sum of €54.54* in bank account No. IBAN ES74 0049 1806 9924 1205 3335 at Banco Santander Central Hispano for the application fee to have the report assessed for recognition, in accordance with the Catalan Decree setting the prices for the provision of academic services at Catalan public universities.

Documents issued abroad must meet the following requirements:

  1. They must be official and have been issued by the competent authorities, as established by law in the country in question.
  2. They must be duly authenticated or, where applicable, bear the apostille provided for under the Hague Convention. This requirement does not apply to documents issued by the authorities of European Union member states or states that have signed the declaration on the European Higher Education Area.
  3. Where applicable, an official Spanish or Catalan translation must be attached.

Students in the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation who apply for the transfer and recognition of credits may submit the requisite transcript, syllabus and course plans or teaching programmes in English, French or German.

*Discounts

  • If you count as a “General” Large Family, you need to make a transfer of 27,27€.
  • If you count as a “Special” Large Family, there is no fee for this service.
  • If you count as a “People with disabilities”, there is no fee for this service.
  • If you count as a “Vctim of gender-based violence”, there is no fee for this service.
  • If you count as a “Victim of acts of terrorisme”, there is no fee for this service.

For situations where discounts are applicable, you have to attatch a copy to the form.

Application period

New students: from 1 to 20 September, notwithstanding the terms established for applications for admission through transfer from a different study programme with 30 recognized credits.

New students enrolled after 20th September can submit the application form during the 20 days following the enrollment.

Students enrolled on a programme at Pompeu Fabra University: from the start of the academic year until 31 May.

Decision

Applications for the transfer and recognition of credits will be decided by the dean or study director based on the content of the teaching programmes for the completed subjects and the syllabi that were followed and for which official certification is submitted.

'a) Provided the qualification to which access is being sought belongs to the same branch of knowledge, the number of credits to be recognized will be equal to at least 15 per cent of the total number of credits required for the qualification, corresponding to basic education subjects from that branch.'
