The Research Group on Molecular Physiology is led by Dr. Miguel Valverde. The group focuses on ion channels and the cellular responses to oxidative and mechanical stress, particularly in the context of the pathophysiology of neurodegeneration, hypertension, migraine and chronic respiratory disease.
The main research lines are:
- Calcium signaling in the physiology and pathology of the airways
- Ion channels in the pathophysiology of hypertension.
- Functional analysis of new genetic variants in ion channels involved in the pathophysiology of paroxystic neurological diseases
- Role of oxidative stress in the production of the amyloid ß-peptide (Aß) and in the Aß-mediated neurotoxicity present in Alzheimer’s disease.
