2020 Labeling against product counterfeiting

2020 Labeling against product counterfeiting

The main objective of this project is to develop a nanotechnological ink to protect luxury goods from counterfeiters. For this purpose, high-efficient SERS gold nanoparticles will be synthesized, codified with aromatic molecules that have a recognizable spectral pattern, encapsulated with a silica layer to guarantee their colloidal stability for long periods of time, and suspended in organic solution. This innovative ink may be placed on the nameplate of the luxury good or anywhere else without constant erosion or brushing. This high-tech labeling will provide a unique signal once illuminated with a handheld Raman spectrometer for less than ten seconds of laser exposure. Previously optimized synthetic protocols (developed by the key members of this proposal) will be used to obtain the ink. We will further scale up the nanoparticle production using low-cost, high yield, and environmentally friendly processes to facilitate its implementation into industrial processes.
