TROMPA: a project that aims to open to the world the public domain musical heritage

25.05.2018

The kick-off meeting of TROMPA project (Towards Richer Online Music Public-domain Archives) was held on May 14 and 15 in Barcelona. The project, that received funding from the European Union's H2020 program, is coordinated by Emilia Gómez, head of the MIRLab, and counts with the participation of a consortium of academic institutions and companies that includes Voctrolabs, a spin-off company of the MTG.

TROMPA project aims to create public domain musical archives that include scores, recordings (audio, video) and descriptions of music. TROMPA combines artificial intelligence and human intelligence, through a series of applications that serve to involve music lovers in the generation of musical data. In particular, "we will work on applications aimed at singers of choral music and people who like to listen to music but without theoretical knowledge," said Emilia Gómez.

Following an open innovation philosophy, all derived knowledge will be released back to the community in reusable ways. This enables many uses in applications which directly benefit crowd contributors and wider audiences.
