Matthew Clayton is Professor of Political Theory at the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick, UK. He works on distributive justice, the foundations of liberal political thought, and also certain kinds of applied philosophy, such as the philosophy of education. His publications include Justice and Legitimacy in Upbringing (Oxford University Press, 2006) and two co-edited books: The Ideal of Equality (Palgrave, 2002), and Social Justice (Blackwell, 2004). Matthew was invited to the Family Justice project as a Visiting Expert in June 2019. During his visit, he presented a paper on “Against Religious School”, from his manuscript (co-authored with Andrew Mason and Adam Swift). He was also one of the speakers at the conference on What are Children Owed?, where he talked about “Intimacy and Anti-Perfectionism in Upbringing”
