A disruptive innovation is said to be when it causes a revolution, drastic changes in the business and social environment in which it is established. This week, from 12 to 14 September, fifteen technology companies on the threshold of disruptive innovation operating in Catalonia are in San Francisco (USA) to participate in Catalonia Pavilion of TechCrunch Disrupt 2016. Participation in an initiative promoted by the Generalitat (Government) of Catalonia via ACCIÓ, for which it selected the most innovative companies in the technological sectors of different areas such as digital health, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, etc.

One of the organizations within this Catalan delegation is EODYNE Systems, S.L., a spin-off resulting from the research carried out by the Synthetic Perceptive, Emotive and Cognitive Systems (SPECS) research group, led by Paul Verschure (ICREA) of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC) at UPF, which sells the product Rehabilitation Games System (RGS), a powerful innovative technological tool in the rehabilitation of patients affected by different types of paralysis, hemiparesis, aphasias, etc.

The RGS system, tested in several clinical studies with patients suffering from stroke, provides training protocols aimed at individualized tasks that allow patients to do their rehabilitation exercises. The clinical results have confirmed the effectiveness of the RGS and position it as an innovative solution to improve and revolutionize “cognitive rehabilitation” in these types of patients. At international level, Eodyne has installed the RGS at the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla in San Diego (USA).

On Thursday 15 September, each of these companies will have the opportunity to give a public presentation at the so-called DemoDisrupt, organized by the Generalitat (Government) of Catalonia. Eodyne Systems will be presented by Santiago Brandi, the company’s Business Development Officer (BDO). The meeting will gather the most brilliant entrepreneurs, the main investors, hackers and other stakeholders interested in cutting-edge technology.

TechCrunch (TC) is the world benchmark platform for technology-based industry, from the perspective from which the most innovative products and the most promising emerging companies are viewed. TechCrunch is also the organizer of TC Disrupt, the world showcase for new technologies.  At previous editions of such meetings, the world’s leading companies in the sector such as Facebook, Dropbox, etc. have closed multi-million dollar investment deals. They now participate to present their new products and take an interest in others, in turn closing large investment deals.
