Professor Alexander Kypriyanov, and doctoral researcher Daria Dergacheva will talk to us, respectively, about the current state of media in Russia, and its coverage of topics related to the LGBT community.

The next June 29th., Professor Alexander Kypriyanov, and doctoral researcher Daria Dergacheva will talk to us, respectively, about the current state of media in Russia, and its coverage of topics related to the LGBT community.

The seminar will take place at the Collaborate platform.

PROGRAMME 

  • 3:00pm-3:05pm: Welcome and opening
  • 3:05pm-3:20 pm: The Russian Media Today, (Alexander Kypriyanov)
  • 3:20 pm-3:35pm: State narrative construction on Twitter, (Daria Dergacheva). Her presentation will be based on her PhD thesis: ‘State narrative’ construction on Twitter. The case of news around LGBT topics in Russia. She will talk in detail about the methodology and concepts used in the study. The presentation will be interesting for researchers of social networks, those interested in computational methods and multimethod analysis, as well as and diffusion of state narrative in social networks.
  • 3:25pm: Debate

About our speakers: 

Alexander Kypriyanov is a media practitioner with over 20 years of experience both in the Russian regional as well as federal media, currently working on of the most prestigious universities in Moscow for media studies, the Higher School of Economics (Moscow, Russia) as academic supervisor of the Media and Communication programme (BA). From 2014 to 2018 he was the deputy editor-in-chief at TASS (Russian official news agency).

Daria Dergacheva is a last year PhD student at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences) Daria received her Master’s degree in International Journalism from the University of Westminster (UK) by the virtue of a prestigious Chevening scholarship, and has worked in various media and NGOs in Russia for over 10 years. 

Before that, she also received an MA degree in sociology at the Central European University. Daria’ s research interests include political communication, democratic theory, platformization of digital economy, digital and interactive storytelling, social networks research and digital research methods in social sciences. She taught courses at the Moscow State University and Urals State University, and in the nearest future, plans to teach an online course on digital methods in social sciences at the Higher School of Economics, Department of Media Studies and Journalism.
