25.05.2022

During the school year 2021-2022, researchers from the Courage Project (TIDE, UPF) led the digital literacy initiative “How does social media work? Find out social media secrets and design the social media of tomorrow”. The course had the workshop format and consisted of six modules with a total of 12 hours.

What is behind our social media? To what extent do our favorite apps impact our health and wellbeing? Will social media be the same in the future? These and more questions were raised during the first edition of the social media course organized by researchers of TIDE group as part of the Courage Project.

For the first edition of this course, researchers from the Courage project  implemented novel learning materials such as the educational platform Instareal: a simulated social media environment to teach young people about the social media risks and threats.

The course design was supervised by senior researcher Dr. Davinia Hernández-Leo and conducted by professors Emily Theophilou, René Lobo, Roberto Sánchez-Reina.

The edition counted with the participation of different schools from Barcelona city and other provinces from Catalonia. More than 1200 students from junior and senior high schools enrolled and fulfilled their course diploma.
