News avoidance is the phenomenon by which a person, either actively or passively, decides not to consume news of any kind for a myriad of reasons. It is a growing situation, as indicated by various studies (Reuters, 2022; Goyanes, 2021, among others). There are several variables that may be conditioning this process (trust in media, information overload, news fatigue, news find me phenomenon, etc). This research project aims to identify which of these variables can serve as predictors in news avoidance and, therefore, generate scientific evidence that allows for the adaptation of content and media strategies to encourage news following among the young population of Catalonia.

This project is funded by the Chair in Futures of Communication and the SGR grants of the DigiDoc Research Group (UPF).
