On 3 June, UPF is to invest the physicist, philosopher and activist Vandana Shiva honoris causa

UPF will be awarding its highest distinction to Shiva, a physicist and a doctor of Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario, in recognition of her academic contribution to fields such as intellectual property rights, biodiversity, biotechnology, bioethics and genetic engineering. The event will be held on the Ciutadella campus and the laudatory speech for the ecofeminist activist will be given by the full professor of Ethics and Political Economy of Communication of the Department of Communication, Núria Almiron.

Xavier Amatriain, doctor in engineering from the UPF and AI expert: "It will soon be unthinkable to work without artificial intelligence"

Xavier Amatriain, a renowned telecommunications engineer and AI expert, has spent much of his career in Silicon Valley, USA, and is currently vice-president of Product AI Strategy at Google. On 21 May he will return to the UPF, where he obtained his doctorate in Information and Communications Technologies in 2005. He will give a talk during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Engineering studies at the UPF.

En la seva obra, el cineasta i professor associat del Departament de Comunicació de la UPF fa un retrat d'una comunitat que viu al Delta de l'Ebre, sumida en una crisi global.

Óscar Pérez RamírezEl cineasta Óscar Pérez Ramírez, professor associat del Departament de Comunicació de la UPF, va ser premiat amb la Bisnaga de Plata com a millor director de Documental, en el marc de la 18a. edició del Festival de Màlaga de Cinema Espanyol. Va ser distingit pel seu treball El tram final, un recorregut per l'últim tram del riu Ebre, un territori sumit en una crisi global, reflex d'una societat abandonada a l'excés.

Óscar Pérez Ramírez, vinculat a la UPF des del 2010 i actualment docent de l'assignatura de Documental de Creació en el Grau en Comunicació Audiovisual, va rebre el guardó en el decurs de la cerimònia de clausura del Festival, que va transcórrer a la ciutat andalusa del 17 al 26 d'abril, i després que el jurat de la secció oficial de Documentals, format per María Cañas, Josetxo Cerdán i Ana Pérez de la Fuente, el donés com a treball guanyador.

El documental, que anteriorment va ser seleccionat per participar en el 27è lnternational Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam - IDFA 2014, transcorre al Delta de l'Ebre, un indret on la terra desapareix any rere any, empassada pel mar. Un grup de pagesos construeixen amb les seves pròpies mans el recinte on familiars i amics es reuneixen cada estiu, durant la festa major, per celebrar sense restriccions els tiberis més abundants de la temporada.

Óscar Pérez Ramírez (Girona, 1973) va cursar estudis de cinema documental en el London College of Communication. Ha impartit classes de guió i documental en el màster de Documental Creatiu de la UAB i en el Centre d'Estudis Micro Obert. Altres documentals que ha dirigit han estat Hollywood Talkies (2011), Ventrada (2009), If the Camera Blows Up (2008), El sastre (2007) o Salve Melilla (2006). L'any 2009 va fundar Getsemaní Produccions, a través de la qual produeix i realitza els seus propis treballs.
