Nominal variable:0

The studied property can only be grouped into exhaustive and exclusive categories. Genres, Sections of a newspaper, television channels,… Each category is assigned different attributes (names or numbers). The numeric assignment does not involve a hierarchy. Television channels are an example of nominal variables.

               Example: sex (M / F).

Ordinal variable:

In addition to including the characteristics of the nominal ones, they allow to be ordered from major to minor or vice versa. It can be, for example, the perception of the television channel by the audience.

Example: status (high / low / medium).

Reason variable

The difference with the rest is that they have a true absolute zero point. It can be monthly income, watching hours of TV or Internet consultation per week.

Ex: Hours of exposure to TV

Interval variable:

It allows the interpretation of the difference between two measures. The intervals or distances between two categories can be known, since these are real numbers not assigned arbitrarily. Allows you to perform arithmetic operations. There is no zero.
