The Times Higher Education’s 2024 Rankings by Subject, released on 26 October, lists UPF in six of the eleven areas analysed: Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Clinical and Health, Engineering, Law and Social Sciences. Depending on the area, the number of universities included in the list differs, varying between 329 for Law and 1,374 for Engineering.

The 2024 World University Rankings by Subject ranks five areas of knowledge at UPF among the top 200 in the world: Business and Economics and Law, which, despite dropping slightly, remain within the top 100 in the world ranking, in the 93rd and 98th positions, respectively.

Arts and Humanities makes an appearance in the 126-150 bracket (it was ranked 176-200 in the previous edition), with Clinical and Health in the 176-200 range (201-250 last year), a notable improvement.

As for the two other fields, Social Sciences retains its position, in the 151-175 bracket, while Engineering remains in the list, despite falling to 401-500.

Among Spanish universities, UPF is ranked second in Law, Business and Economics, Clinical and Health and Engineering

At State level, UPF is among the top four in each of these six fields: Law, Business and Economics, Clinical and Engineering, all of which occupy the second position (shared, in the case of Clinical and Health and Engineering, with other universities); Social Sciences, third; and Arts and Humanities, fourth.

Internationally, the institutions that top the ranking’s eleven areas are as follows: Engineering, Law and Life Sciences (Harvard University); Clinical and Health and Computer Sciences (University of Oxford); Arts and Humanities (Stanford University); Social Sciences (Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University); Education (University of California, Berkeley); Physical Sciences (California Institute of Technology); and Business and Economics (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

The 2024 World University Rankings by Subject draws from the 18 performance indicators used in the World University Rankings (WUR), and which are divided into five categories, the result of the change in methodology introduced by Times Higher Education in the most recent edition of the WUR. The weight of each indicator, however, varies depending on the discipline, with a view to adjusting the calculation to each area of knowledge.

In the 2024 World University Rankings, published this past September, UPF was ranked in the 201-250 range, while in the 2023 edition of the Young University Rankings, the University occupied the eighteenth position.
