Another six postdoctoral researchers are to join the UPFellows programme

Within the Marie Curie COFUND action of the 7 th Framework Programme, these young scientists will be working in research groups of the departments of Economics and Business, Information and Communication Technologies, and Experimental and Health Sciences.

fellows1 fellows2 The  UPFellows programme provides opportunities for professional development to young postdoctoral candidates of any nationality from centres abroad who wish to pursue their careers in science within Catalan territory, under the supervision of a senior scientific mentor.

Promoted by Pompeu Fabra University, this initiative has the support of the Marie Curie COFUND programme of the 7 th framework programme of the European Union and offers a total of 24 fellowships aimed exclusively at international researchers.

Six fellowships are on offer in the third call for applicants to the UPFellows programme. The selection process has been carried out on a competitive basis by means of an expert review procedure (peer review), according to the criteria of scientific excellence and academic qualification and following the European codes established in the selection of researchers.

International researchers incorporated

Manuel J. García-Santana, whose mentor will be  Julian di Giovanni and who will join the Department of Economics and Business.

Gergely Neu's supervisor will be  Hector Geffner, ICREA researcher and head of the Artificial Intelligence research group at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC).

Carla Ràfols Salvador will be directed byVanesa Daza, lecturer and researcher in the field of distributed cryptography at the DTIC.

Alexia Giannoula will join the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (CEXS) to perform her tasks under the supervision ofFerran Sanz, director of the Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB).

Márton Münz, also at the CEXS, is to join the team of Núria López-Bigas, head of the Biomedical Genomics Laboratory.

Vincent Warnault will be directed by Olga Valverde, researcher of the Neurobiology of Behaviour Research Group in at the CEXS.

With these new additions, to date 26 UPFellows fellowships have been granted, promoted by UPF with the support of the Marie Curie COFUND programme of the 7 th framework programme of the European Union. In addition to the six aforementioned researchers recently incorporated, at the 2013 call there were ten (four of whom did not complete it) and in 2014 a further ten young postdoctoral researchers.
