The videogame Galaxy Scraper, conceived by Aarón Ruiz, Roger Solé, Xavi Lamarca, Carlos Guzmán and Josep Soto, students of the UPF Master in Videogame Creation (see photo), is one of the winning videogames in the tenth edition of theAnnual Independent Games Festival in the students' category. This festival takes place every year in the United States at the same time as the Game Developers Conference. For the first time, a game created in Spain made it onto the list of winners in these independent videogame Oscars.

Galaxy Scraper is one of the 12 games created by students throughout the world, which are to be honoured during the Game Developers Conference to be held in San Francisco , California from 18 to 22 February. The twelve winners have been chosen from 125 candidates from over 20 countries.

The Galaxy Scraper hero, a traveller lost in space, has to travel across a miniature solar system. This videogame uses an accurate control system to display an innovative gaming platform with original graphics where spatial concepts of the real world (up, down, etc.) take on new possibilities. Previously, this videogame was awarded the Major Prize in the Playstation ArtFutura Competition. A demo version of this creation can be seen at http://www.ithandil.net/galaxy/ and it will be presented during the Game Developers Conference.

Since the Master in Videogame Creation was first offered in 2000, UPF has been a benchmark in Spain when it comes to educating professionals in this field. Teaching staff on this course include researchers from the Interactive Technology Group ( GTI) of the University Information and Communication Technology Department ( DTIC), as well as professionals from the sphere of business from Novarama, Digital Legends, Ubi Soft, Pyro Studios and Arvirago, among others.
