EUTOPIA is an alliance of six leading European universities with the aim of creating a connected, inclusive community that, through collaborative research, greater student and teacher mobility and shared innovations among, others, seeks to address local and global challenges ultimately contributing to creating a new model for higher education in Europe.

The network, consisting of the universities of Paris Seine, Brussels Vrije, Warwick, Ljubljana, Gothenburg and UPF, includes a total of over 165,000 students, 30,000 staff and research centres in 760 areas of knowledge.

The selection involves a grant of 5 million euros to develop joint projects.

In February 2019, EUTOPIA presented its candidacy to the call of the European Commission’s Erasmus+ “European Universities” programme, and it has been chosen as one of the 17 winning projects. The selection involves a grant of 5 million euros to develop joint projects. The total budget of the programme amounts to 85 million euros in a call that has involved the participation of about 60 projects and more than 300 higher education institutions. For Jaume Casals, UPF rector, the project is “a great opportunity to eradicate local and external, mental and material, bureaucratic and academic university barriers in Europe”.

The success of obtaining the call will help develop some of the projects being created since the start of the alliance, including doctoral scholarships in co-tutorship, new joint master’s degree programs, summer schools, new academic mobility programmes and academic workshops at partner institutions.
