In the 17th edition of the list “50 degree courses”, two of the University’s bachelor’s degrees come in first position (Labour Relations and Economics) and seven between second and fifth. The bachelor’s degree in Human Biology appears for the first time.
Nine of UPF’s fifteen bachelor’s degrees (66.6%) assessed in the 2017 edition of the ranking by the newspaper El Mundo published on 11 May, come within the top five positions among Spanish universities.
The “50 degree courses” classification, now in its 17th edition, includes the 50 bachelor’s degrees (both at public and private centres) that were in most demand by students last June and highlights the five best universities in Spain at which to study them.
UPF (the ranking evaluates fifteen of the University’s total of 23 bachelor’s degrees) remains in tenth place overall in the list and ninth among public universities, and two of its courses come top: the bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Labour Relations, that maintain the highest place on the podium.
Two bachelor’s degrees come in second place (Business Management and Administration and Finance and Accounting (equivalent to Business Sciences-Management), two in third (Political and Administration Sciences and Law), two in fourth position (Audiovisual Communication and Advertising and Public Relations) and one in fifth (Human Biology), which appears for the first time in the rankings.

The public universities in Madrid and Barcelona, the best positioned
In the ranking, which presents data on the top 50 Spanish universities, of the total of a possible 77, the institutions in Madrid and Barcelona come at the top. In addition, within the first 10 positions, nine correspond to public universities (the only private one is the University of Navarra). In the global list, 80% of the institutions that appear are publicly owned.
To draw up the list, 25 assessment criteria are considered, spread over three main sections. The first is a questionnaire sent to 2,000 lecturers throughout Spain (with a weighting of 40%), in which, among other things, they are asked which are the best universities to teach their degree.
The second section includes data from the universities -university demand, human resources, physical resources, curriculum, results and information on context- (accounting for 50% of the final score). Finally, other external studies are taken into account -results in international rankings, reports by the ANECA or Spanish universities- representing 10% of the final score.
