UPF once again heads the ranking for scientific output by Spanish universities

UPF has remained at the forefront of this classification since 2009. The ranking assesses the articles published, the periods of external assessment of research activity, R&D projects granted by the Ministry, teaching staff training scholarships, the quality of doctoral studies, doctoral theses and patents.

N/A: Not available. This indicator was incorporated in 2009

The ranking is drawn up on the basis of seven indicators:

  • Articles published in journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports (JCR)
  • Periods of external assessment of research activity
  • R&D projects granted at calls by the Ministry
  • Doctoral theses
  • FPU scholarships
  • Doctorates with a Pathway to Excellence label
  • Patents (registered and in use)

According to the  results of each university for these indicators, two general rankings are drawn up classifying the institutions according to their output (total number) and productivity (relativizing this depending on the number of lecturers with civil servant contract). In fact, the first editions of the ranking only analysed the productivity of institutions; total volume was incorporated in 2010. The different editions of the ranking, coordinated by professor Gualberto Buela-Casal of the University of Granada, can be consulted on the research group website
