The research project THINKClimate that runs Núria Almiron, in the Department of Communication UPF's, and led by UPF, will hold the congress in virtual online format on May 26 and 27: "Lobbying for (in) action: Climate Emergence, Interest Groups and Denial". An international scientific dissemination event on climate change, denialism and lobbying in which 45 speakers from 13 different countries will participate.

This virtual conference organised by the THINKClima research project is an international scientific dissemination event on climate change, denialism and lobbying with 45 speakers from 13 different countries. The event will last two days and is virtual. The programme consists of four panels of invited experts, who will discuss the climate countermovement in the USA, the results of the THINKClima project in Europe, climate disinformation, and the beliefs underpinning climate change denialism. There will also be four parallel sessions of presentations by scholars in this line of research on climate obstruction. Finally, the programme will be rounded off with four keynotes by renowned specialists.

"The format online of the conference has allowed us to have the most representative international speakers on climate denialism and the highest references in their field," says Núria Almiron, director of THINKClima.

Four internationally renowned speakers will give the keynote talks

The conference will start with the first keynote, on Wednesday 26 May, which will be given by Bernhard Forchtner from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, a specialist in far-right movements and the environment. Forchtner will give insights into the far-right in the European Parliament and how they have positioned themselves on climate change in this chamber.

The second keynote of the conference will be given by Ruth McKie, researcher at De Montfort University in the UK and a specialist in green criminology. McKie will take a look at the climate countermovement beyond the US and Europe, to put the academic focus on other contexts where there is still much to be explored in terms of climate obstruction.

On Thursday 27th, Dieter Plehwe, researcher at the Berlin Social Science Center in Germany, will give a keynote on neoliberal ideology and climate policy. Plehwe is an expert on political ideology with a focus on the study of neoliberalism and how it promotes climate inaction.

Finally, to close the conference, Maxwell Boykoff, from the University of Colorado-Boulder in the USA, will speak on how to communicate climate change. Boykoff is one of the foremost experts on climate communication, and in his keynote, he will address how the climate movement's efforts are hindered by denialist discourses and the stakeholders who promote them.
