On 3 June, UPF is to invest the physicist, philosopher and activist Vandana Shiva honoris causa

UPF will be awarding its highest distinction to Shiva, a physicist and a doctor of Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario, in recognition of her academic contribution to fields such as intellectual property rights, biodiversity, biotechnology, bioethics and genetic engineering. The event will be held on the Ciutadella campus and the laudatory speech for the ecofeminist activist will be given by the full professor of Ethics and Political Economy of Communication of the Department of Communication, Núria Almiron.

Xavier Amatriain, doctor in engineering from the UPF and AI expert: "It will soon be unthinkable to work without artificial intelligence"

Xavier Amatriain, a renowned telecommunications engineer and AI expert, has spent much of his career in Silicon Valley, USA, and is currently vice-president of Product AI Strategy at Google. On 21 May he will return to the UPF, where he obtained his doctorate in Information and Communications Technologies in 2005. He will give a talk during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Engineering studies at the UPF.

Javier López Bravo va presentar el projecte SmartPacking, un sensor per a missatgeria i transport que permet controlar, entre d'altres paràmetres, la temperatura, la posició o la integritat d'enviaments fràgils o de gran valor.

PresentacióCiscoJavier López Bravo, estudiant del grau en Enginyeria Telemàtica de l'Escola Superior Politècnica (ESUP), ha guanyat el "Cisco Spain Challenge" amb el projecte SmartPacking , fruit del seu treball de final de grau. La proposta, seleccionada entre més d'un centenar d'idees, li va permetre treballar el model de negoci a desenvolupar amb mentors de Cisco i de la Fundació Inlea.

El passat 8 de maig, Javier López va tenir l'oportunitat de presentar el projecte a Madrid en el marc de la Cisco Connect 2014, un dels esdeveniments més rellevants del sector de les Tecnologies de la Informació a Espanya, aquest any centrat en "l'Internet of Everything".

Un servei per al sector de la missatgeria i el transport

El projecte SmartPacking és un servei per al sector de la missatgeria i el transport en el qual mitjançant un dispositiu acoblat als paquets es pot obtenir informació sobre l'evolució de l'enviament. Proporciona informació real sobre el compliment de la cadena de fred, la verticalitat de l'enviament la seva integritat o els cops que ha rebut durant el transport. Tant l'emissor com el receptor tenen accés a aquestes dades i poden monitoritzar i comprovar l'estat del lliurament.
