Some months ago the UPF was invited to join the Europaeum network as a member, and has now formalized its full membership status.

europaeamOn 29 th November, the Secretary General of Europeaum, Paul Flather, visited the University and was received by Josep Joan Moreso, rector of the UPF.

To mark his visit an informal meeting was organized with the members of the teaching staff who act as a liaison for each Department and Institute of the UPF.

The object of the meeting was to present the association and to identify specific initiatives and opportunities for collaboration between its members.

The Europaeum network is made up of the European universities of Oxford (United Kingdom), Leiden (Netherlands), Bologna (Italy), Bonn (Germany), Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), Charles (Karlova) of Prague (Czech Republic) , Helsinki (Finland), Jagiellonian of Krakow (Poland) and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies of Geneva (Switzerland) and, from now on, Pompeu Fabra University.

In addition to these full members, the Institute of Political Studies of the Catholic University of Portugal, the Fundación Ortega Marañón and the Complutense University of Madrid are associate members and participate in some of its activities.

Europaeum acts as a network of interrelation between member Universities and facilitates the generation of bilateral or multilateral initiatives for mobility, teaching collaboration and joint research. It also carries out an important activity of its own based on European studies, contemplated from a very cross-curricular perspective, encompassing political science, international relations, law, economics, history, diverse cultural manifestations and communication.

Specifically, Europaeum promotes:

  • Summer schools and regular research workshops for postgraduate students. This year five postgraduate students of the Departments of Political Sciences and Communication of the UPF have had the opportunity of benefitting from these experiences.
  • Student grant programmes for mobility between certain member universities.
  • Visiting lecturer programme, with approximately fifty beneficiaries over twelve years.
  • Annual conferences, with the participation of lecturers from several universities. This year a lecturer from the Department of Humanities has participated in a talk on subjects pertaining to classical antiquity.
  • Joint teaching in shared programmes.
  • Joint research in public policy and European matters.
  • Europe-United States transatlantic dialogue programme
