The IWH carries out develops its research programmes on a cross-disciplinary basis in collaboration with political scientists, workers, businessmen and health professionals.

The Center for Research in Occupational Health (CISAL) is directed by Fernando García Benavides and was established thanks to an agreement between UPF, Corporación Mutua and the Union for Work, Environment and health (ISTAS).

The CISAL's research work focuses on the most important aspects of occupational health, due to either their magnitude or seriousness, or their economic and social impact, and is divided in the following areas: working conditions, inequalities in occupational health, harm to health, and health and safety policies in the workplace.

The centre's main strategic goals are to provide knowledge and information in order to reduce and prevent occupational health problems, as well as to train highly qualified researchers and professionals in this field who can subsequently contribute to accomplishing the goals of the CISAL.
