On June 28 and 29, José Sánchez participates in the International Civic Education Forum for Youth in the Mediterranean, organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).

The purpose of the seminar is to discuss the central role of citizenship education in the current emerging challenges of the region through the prevention of violence and radicalization and the promotion of gender equality. The seminar responds to three main objectives:

• Discuss the challenges and recommendations about the civic education programs in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

• Share experiences and good practices and explore regional perspectives on the prevention of youth radicalization through civic education.

• Explore the needs and ways of sustainability in relation to the creation of capacities and the contribution of the different interest groups.

The seminar brings together regional institutions, educators and stakeholders interested in civic education in the UfM countries. Participants include the main partner institutions and technical experts involved in the FRC program, as well as representatives of the national education ministries of the countries involved, regional intergovernmental organizations, experts in the field of education, institutions and universities.

José Sánchez García participates as a speaker at the round table 'The role of civic education in the prevention of the radicalization of youth'. The table deals with the challenges of the prevention of radicalization from the point of view of current regional and national strategies and the initiatives of the civic society. The main objective is to address the common challenges of intolerance and inequality by exploring how to work together on the root causes of violence in the region. It is also discussed how citizenship education can provide tools to foster tolerance and respect for diversity.

Miquel Àngel Essomba i Gelabert (Commissioner for Education, Children and Youth of Barcelona), Cedric Neri (Coordinator of the 'Communication and Information sector' project of UNESCO Amman Office in Jordan), Pedro Rojo (President of the Al Foundation Fanar for Arabic knowledge) and Moussa Bourekba (Researcher at the International Documentation Center of Barcelona - CIDOB) also participate in the round table. Laurence Païs (Deputy Director General for Social and Civil Affairs at UfM) moderates the table.
