LATIN KINGS IN BARCELONA

Cesar Andrade, member of the Latin Kings for more than 25 years, presents at UPF his experience and the implications of the youth gangs formation and mediation.

The Department of Communication of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra organized an activity of the TRANSGANG project within the framework of the subject 'Cultural Industries' of the Publicity and Public Relations Studies, coordinated by Carles Feixa. The activity took place on April 28, 2018.

The session focused on the activities and experiences of the Latin Kings in Barcelona. In the first part of the activity the documentary 'Vida Real. Latin Kings en Cataluña’ (Real life. Latin Kings in Catalonia) was presented. The documental focuses on the experiences of young people from street organizations in Catalonia. In the second part of the session the students conducted a joint interview to César Andrade –King Manaba–, member of the Latin King for more than 25 years. The dialogue between the students and César lasted approximately one hour and in it different points were worked on the youth gangs such as their creation, activities and objectives (past and present). César explained his experiences and the implications of the youth gangs’ formation and mediation.
