Transgang Kick-Off Meeting

On October 9, 10 and 11 the Kick-Off Meeting of the Transgang Project took place in Barcelona

01.11.2018

The Kick-Off meeting, whose program is included in the project website (https://www.upf.edu/web/transgang/kick-off-meeting), was designed with the aim to present in detail the project, agree on the methodology and define the key concepts, techniques and ethical protocols. Likewise, we also dedicated a space to the participants in order to know each other, share concerns and work rhythms. The first two days of the meeting were internal. The third day included two round tables open to the academy and to the public in general. The session of the 11th in the afternoon was especially interesting because it commemorated the 13th anniversary of the "Barcelona process" beginning. It entailed the establishment of associations linked to Latin kings and ñetas.

The meeting brought together around thirty participants from 3 continents, 10 countries and 12 cities, including the UPF team (coordinating university), the Scientific Advisory Board (academics from all the world specialists in gangs and youth groups) and the Ethical Advisory Board (professionals that will follow up on the ethical protocols of the project).

The dynamics of the meeting were the following: brief presentations by members of the UPF team; discussions in small mixed groups or by geographical areas; and debates and discussions with the participation of members of the Scientific Advisory Board. More specifically, the work sessions were designed to carry out a collaborative work around the main issues of the project that allowed reaching a consensus regarding theoretical, methodological and work plan issues.
