Abstract:

My project is concerned with visualizing linguistic phenomena on different levels of discourse and their evaluation with regard to their user-friendliness. I look at ways thematic structure and progression, intonation contours, and vowel quality, among others, can be visualized in meaningful ways. One of my concerns is the qualitative analysis of how learners of language actually use visual teaching materials in order to better understand their role in the language learning context. 

Nathalie Schümchen is a PhD fellow at the University of Southern Denmark in Sønderborg. Her supervisors are Kerstin Fischer (main) and Oliver Niebuhr (co-supervisor). Nathalie holds a Bachelor's degree in International Business Communication (Danish and English) and a Master's degree in International Business Communication and Communication Design.
