TIDE Conducts Workshop to Introduce FLeD Tool for Flexible and Inclusive Learning Design

15.11.2024

On November 14th, 2024, the TIDE research group conducted a workshop to introduce the FLeD project and tool to UPF faculty and staff from its Teaching Training & Innovation Unit. The FLeD tool, developed by TIDE, aims to support inclusive flipped learning scenarios through pedagogical guidance and adaptable design patterns. The main objectives of the workshop were to introduce the FLeD project, share insights, demonstrate the tool, highlight experiences from one of the teachers involved in the pilot, and conduct a hands-on activity on flexible learning design and FLeD’s adaptive patterns.

During the workshop, participants explored the tool's features, emphasizing its adaptability, flexibility, and scaffolding strengths, with a focus on the utility of its implemented pedagogical patterns, while also discussing potential enhancements and providing feedback for future improvements. Batuhan Sayis, a senior postdoctoral researcher at TIDE, presented innovative approaches to enhance educational inclusivity, drawing from his research in areas such as Affective Computing, wearable technologies, and Autism. His work highlighted the importance of designing learning experiences tailored to diverse needs, including children with Autism Spectrum Conditions, by leveraging innovative technologies to foster emotional and social understanding. These approaches directly align with the FLeD Project’s goal of flexible, inclusive learning, supporting participants' exploration of how the FLeD tool can be adapted to effectively meet the unique needs of all learners.

The FLeD project aims to support university educators in designing flexible and inclusive learning scenarios through a web-based tool that provides pedagogical guidance and uses flipped learning patterns to enhance teaching effectiveness. The main objectives of FLeD tool:

· To structure and support the design of inclusive flipped learning scenarios for diverse technology-mediated contexts.

· To promote playful and collaborative synergies between teachers for learning design.

· To guide teachers in decision-making for flexible learning design by developing a digital tool.

· To increase the awareness of flexible learning under the flipped learning method.
