One Post-doc and two PhD positions available @ LaSTUS Lab

The LaSTUS laboratory of the TALN research group at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies, Universitat Pompeu Fabra  in Barcelona is hiring: One post-doctoral fellow and two PhD students to work in the areas of natural language understanding, text generation and text  simplification.

The appointments relate to the recently funded EU H2020 SignON Project for which the laboratory will be developing research in the areas of natural language understanding and text generation for oral and sign language translation. The appointments will be supervised by Dr Horacio Saggion.

For the post-doc position, we are looking for a talented researcher (with a PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or Machine Learning) with experience in text analysis and good knowledge of current deep learning approaches (especially current sequence to sequence techniques and neural language models) and of symbolic techniques in natural language processing.  Knowledge or experience in the area of text simplification will be highly appreciated. Experience in the development of software projects in Java, Python, etc. will be considered a plus.  Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of Spanish are requited. Knowledge of computational treatment of sign languages will also be considered an asset.   For this position we offer: full-time contract (37.5 hours per week), flexible schedule, possibility of telework, vacation: 22 working days, and social benefits and healthcare coverage according to Spanish law.  This position is for 3-years, with an initial one-year contract, with a gross annual salary of €35K-€40K depending on experience, which will be renewed for 2-years depending on the candidate performance (with possibility of salary promotion depending on performance).

For the PhD positions we are looking for talented people with a Master degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or Machine learning. Experience with current deep learning techniques for natural language processing is a plus. Excellent knowledge of English is required. Mastering of Spanish is considered a plus.  For this position we offer, full-time contract (37.5 hours per week), flexible schedule, vacation: 22 working days, and social benefits and healthcare coverage according to Spanish law.   The selected candidates will enrol in the 3-years PhD program at the DTIC department for 2021-2022.  One of the PhD positions will require the student to teach in undergraduate courses for a maximum of 45hs per year. The fellows will receive a starting PhD gross annual salary of €16,500, plus a complement for the candidate with teaching load.
