There are specialists in being the first to arrive and provide assistance at an emergency such as an accident, a natural disaster or a terrorist attack. They are known as First Responders or FR. They are usually emergency medical technicians, police officers, firefighters, lifeguards and other members trained by organizations related to this type of work.

One of the main problems facing First Responders is that they use outdated technology. It is essential to provide public safety services with all the tools offered by modern technology

One of the partners of INGENIOUS is Pompeu Fabra University. UPF will be responsible for the tasks of natural language processing. It involves Mireia Farrús, head of the Expressive Speech Group and a researcher at the research group on Natural Language Processing (TALN) of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC).

More specifically, the TALN will undertake the development of techniques to support multilingual communication for teams that will facilitate, on the one hand, multilingual communication with FR teams, and on the other hand, on-site communication between multilingual FR teams, using techniques of adapted spoken and written translation. For this she will have a specific budget of 219,562.50 euros.

The project kick-off meeting is to take place in Athens (Greece) from 18 to 20 September.
