Be a part of the Green City Hackathon!

Work with other researchers at BigSurv18 to help Barcelona reduce car use in the city.

BigSurv18 kicks off with the Green City Hackathon, a 2-day event to explore how Barcelona can reduce car usage and increase bicycle commuting.

Five teams of computer scientists, data scientists, social scientists, and survey and big data experts will work with population and demography data from the Open Data BCN to

• explore how bikes are used by residents,
• learn who uses bikes,
• understand which neighborhood observes the most bike commutes,
• identify where infrastructure is missing,
• determine if enough bicycle stands exist, and
• observe if there are any streets in which an exclusive use of bikes might be beneficial.

This challenge aims to provide Barcelona with descriptive analyses, bike use maps, predictive analyses, digital tools, and more.

The Hackathon is open to everyone, even individuals who will not be attending the conference. Conference attendees who want to participate in the Hackathon should indicate their interest when theyregister for BigSurv18. Individuals who do not plan to attend BigSurv18 but are interested in participating in the Hackathon can apply now through Thursday, 30 August, by completing the short application. Applicants will be informed of the status of their application by Saturday, 15 September.
