Begüm Dereli is a PhD candidate at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Her dissertation is based on a case study, focuses on the relations between human capital and integration process of refugee youths through higher education in Turkey. She conducts therefore in-depth interviews as well as a survey among refugee youths. Begüm's main academic interests include: Forced Migrations, Immigration and Identity, Integration.
At RECSM Begüm deals with survey question characteristics and other aspects of survey research.
Previously she completed the Master in Immigration Management as a Jean Monnet scholar in 2016. Her master dissertation explores the relationship between perception of national identity and migration experiences through analyzing narratives of Syrian refugees of Turkish descent in Turkey.
She has worked as a protection officer for a UNHCR Protection Project in Turkey, the aim of the project is to promote or provide legal and physical protection and to minimize the threat of violence for refugees and asylums. She has conducted policy-relevant research on “Refugee Integration through Higher Education” as a doctoral training fellow in UNU-GCM.
