After a Master in Sciences of Language at the University of Provence (France) I started a joint PhD in Psycholinguistics at the University of Provence (France) and University of Edinburgh (UK) that I completed in 2008. My research focused on syntactic processing in second language (L2) in comprehension and production of language. In 2008, I started working as a post-doctorate research associate at Heriot-Watt University (UK) on a European funded project aiming at developing online L2 e-learning. In 2010, I carried on my post-doctoral training at the University of Edinburgh investigating sentence processing using eye-tracking. In 2011, I started a post-doctorate at the University of Bangor (UK) which was interrupted by the award of a post-doctoral fellowship (Catalan Government) to join the Speech Production and Bilingualism group at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Spain) where I am currently working. I am involved in various projects that allow me to keep investigating language processing in L2 and to apply my expertise to other cognitive aspects like decision making and emotion processing.
My research area is in Psycholinguistics and focuses on (second) language processingin comprehension and production of language. I compare the performance of native and non-native speakers of various languages, mainly French, English, German, Catalan and Spanish.
I am particularly interested in syntactic and semantic processing in L2 but my research also addresses other issues such as emotion processing and decision making in a foreign language.
My work is based on experimental research using different methodologies, mainly event-related potentials (ERPs), eye-tracking and behavioural tasks.
In the SPB, I am involved mainly in the following projects:
- The Moral Tongue: The impact of foreign language processing on moral judgments (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, 2015-2017)
- Advancing the European Multilingual Experience (European Union - 7 Framework Programme, 2014-2019)
- On the active role of speakers in second language comprehension: Anticipation, integration and inferences processes (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, 2012-2014)
