A Primary School on the island of Lesvos was one of the three schools which participated in the Schools4Inclusion project, in Greece. The school community, after piloting the project’s approach for the previous school year, shared their views on the development, the implementation and the evaluation of their Action Plan and the activities they organized.

The School’s Action Plan included intercultural activities, student support activities through co-teaching, the organization of “sports days”, and the continuous communication and engagement of parents in the everyday operation of the school, especially parents belonging in vulnerable social groups. 

The positive impact of the implementation of the Action Plan was the fact that teachers, parents and students worked together to implement what had been planned. Most importantly, all students became members of one large group, where everyone participated equally and no student was excluded from the school activities.  They managed to make a step towards the development of a whole school approach, where everyone is equally involved and engaged in activities and everyone feels equally responsible for their success.

Teachers were inspired by specific tools from the project’s toolkit which provided them with ideas on how to approach and include all students in an open and friendly educational environment. For them the Action Plan was the compass for activities to be organized and carried out in the following school year, a compass to facilitate the educational inclusion of all students, regardless of their backgrounds.
