Si un dels punts més importants en l'RRI és la necessitat de participació de la societat, cal que aquesta conegui la ciència i que en sigui partícip.

De l'enfocament inicial sobre l'accés obert, amb la publicació sense restriccions dels resultats de la recerca, s'ha passat actualment a una visió més àmplia de ciència oberta. Es vol aconseguir que la recerca científica sigui accessible a tota la societat, amb la finalitat d'aconseguir una ciència més transparent i eficient. I això s'obté mitjançant la publicació en accés obert de les metodologies, les dades i els resultats directes de la recerca.

  • FOSTER. Facilitate Open Science Training For European Research. FOSTER is a coordination initiative that aims to support different stakeholders, especially young researchers, in adopting open access in the context of the European Research Area (ERA) and in complying with the open access policies and rules of participation set out for Horizon 2020. From 2014-02-01 to 2016-07-31, closed project.

  • IOSTACK. Software Defined Storage for Big Data. The main objective is to create IOStack: a Software Defined Storage toolkit for Big Data on top of the OpenStack platform. IOStack will enable efficient execution of virtualized analytics applications over virtualized storage resources thanks to flexible, automated, and low cost data management models based on software defined storage (SDS). From 2015-01-01 to 2017-12-31, ongoing project.

  • Medonanet. Mediterranean Open Access Network. MEDOANET will focus on national and regional coordination of Open Access strategies, policies and structures in six Mediterranean countries -Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. From 2011-12-01 to 2013-11-30, closed project
