Chapter 1 Common provisions
Article 71. Composition
Article 72. Rights
The members of the university community have the following rights:
a) To participate directly and be represented in the governing and representation bodies under the terms set out in these By-laws.
b) To take part in the exchange and mobility programmes.
c) To participate in the activities organised by the University.
d) To be informed of the issues that affect university life.
e) To have suitable facilities and equipment that enable them to perform their functions in the best possible way and to use them in accordance with the regulations that regulate them.
f) To have the means that ensure freedom of expression and the effective exercise of the rights of association and unionisation, within the possibilities of the University.
g) To be treated in a non-sexist way.
Article 73. Duties
a) To contribute to improving the University.
b) To respect the rules of peaceful coexistence that are typical of an open, tolerant university community
c) To respect the rights of the other members of the university community.
d) To respect and conserve the assets of the University.
e) To exercise with responsibility the positions or representation for which they have been appointed or elected.
f) To comply with the provisions of these By-laws and other applicable regulations.
Article 74. Volunteer work and cooperation
Article 75. Integration of disabled persons and specific aid programmes
75.2. The University shall collaborate with the relevant public administrations to apply the specific programmes for the victims of terrorism and gender violence.
Article 76. Equal rights
76.2. The organisational structure of the University shall have an equality unit to carry out the tasks related with the principle of equality between men and women.

Chapter 2. Ombuds officer of the University
Article 81. Definition and functions
81.2. He/she is elected by the Senate, at the suggestion of the rector, by a majority of three fifths of the attending senate members, from among members of the university community or persons of renowned prestige who do not belong to the University. In the event of this person having any teaching functions assigned, he/she must be exempted completely or partially from the exercise thereof.
81.3. The term of office is seven years, with no possibility of re-election.
Article 82. Rules for operation
82.2. He/she acts independently and separately from the various university authorities. He/she is not subjected to any imperative mandate or to instructions from any academic authority or governing body. He/she acts of his/her own accord or on the request of a third party, but the requests for action may not be subjected to any type of formality. The Board of Governors must approve the operating rules of the ombuds officer.
82.3. The ombuds officer shall be granted access to any internal documents of the University. All the members of the university community must observe the requests made by the ombuds officer in the performance of their duties.
